Bag Tags, Inc. will provide custom bag tags for players at Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association high school varsity soccer games from September 21-25 as part of Concussion Awareness Week, an initiative of the MIAA and ThinkTaylor. ThinkTaylor was founded by ESPN Lead Soccer Analyst, Taylor Twellman, a former Major League Soccer player who retired due to the effects of multiple concussions. The Foundation has partnered with the MIAA, Bag Tags Inc. and other organizations to launch the initiative to encourage students, parents, and coaches to better understand concussions and create a safer environment for players.
The orange bag tags, in correspondence with the Concussion Awareness theme color, include a list of the symptoms of a concussion and a list of steps to take if an athlete displays those symptoms. The tags will be distributed to more than 27,000 student athletes throughout Massachusetts.
“Trying to raise awareness at the youth level to avoid injury and prevent concussions from occurring is extremely important,” said Tom Yamaoka, director of sales and marketing for Bag Tags Inc. “We are a very proud supporter of the ThinkTaylor Foundation. We’re overjoyed that we have the opportunity to work with them, support their mission and raise a lot of awareness about the severity of concussions.”
The bag tags will ensure the student athletes always have access to crucial information about concussions and remind them to be mindful of the risks associated with playing a sport. “It’s a nice, simple and easy way to spread information, and it’s a reminder of the bigger picture of making sure you’re taking care of yourself,” Yamaoka said.
In addition to the bag tags, varsity soccer players in Massachusetts will receive orange soccer balls, wrist bands, scarves and more as part of the weeklong campaign, which is also sponsored by INARIA, a soccer uniform, apparel and equipment designer and manufacturer. Concussion Awareness Week will be promoted on social media channels as #TTPledge.
As a company that’s dedicated to youth sports, Bag Tags Inc. became involved with Concussion Awareness Week to help prevent concussions from affecting young athletes and to reduce the number of athletes who will suffer the long-term impact concussions can potentially have.
